About Embila

  • Kashmir Art & Craft

Nestled in the northernmost region of India, Kashmir is a land known for its breathtaking beauty, serene valleys, and, most importantly, its extraordinary craftsmanship. For centuries, the region has been home to stunning art forms, from handwoven pashmina shawls to colorful papier-mâché creations, Kashmiri carpets, and carved walnut woodwork. Though these crafts are globally admired, many remain limited in exposure, with only a fraction of their potential appreciated on the international stage.

Our story began with the realization of our founder, a proud Kashmiri, who saw the unmatched artistry of his homeland but also recognized the challenges it faced. The fading opportunities for artisans and the risk of losing these age-old traditions inspired him to act. He envisioned a way to bring Kashmiri art to the world by combining its beauty with modern fashion. This idea took shape with the creation of our Kashmiri-embroidered and woven kimonos, pieces that blend timeless tradition with contemporary style.

  • Artist designing Kimono style cardigans and jackets
  • Kashmiri artisan handcrafting Kimono rich embroidery and details
  • Our kimonos are more than just clothing; they are a bridge between cultures and eras. Using Kashmiri embroidery and designs traditionally reserved for shawls and dresses, we’ve created something new and unique. These kimonos celebrate the legacy of Kashmiri craftsmanship while making it accessible and relevant in today’s fashion world.

But our journey isn’t just about fashion, it’s about people. Behind every kimono is the hard work of talented artisans in Kashmir who bring our designs to life. From designing in the United States to the final handwork in Kashmir, the journey of each kimono is filled with dedication and skill. Many of our artisans are women, and through our work, we aim to empower them in a field often dominated by men. Their craft has been passed down through generations, but with modern times threatening its survival, we are committed to preserving this unique heritage.

Each kimono is carefully handmade, taking time and care to ensure perfection. Our fabric is crafted from rayon, which is derived from the wood pulp of trees like eucalyptus, spruce, and pine, reflecting our dedication to sustainability and mindful choices. By combining these materials with the expertise of Kashmiri artisans, we create kimonos that are not just fashionable but also meaningful. In a world of fast fashion, we stand apart by honoring traditional methods that produce authentic results.

When you wear one of our kimonos, you’re embracing more than just a piece of clothing. You’re wearing a story, a story of Kashmiri families who have honed their craft for centuries, of a founder’s dream to share this artistry with the world, and of a commitment to both people and the planet. Every kimono helps support artisan families, giving them the recognition and livelihood they deserve.

  • Modern Kimono for Modern Women

We are more than a fashion brand; we are a community. Our artisans are not just employees; they are family. Each piece is a result of their skill, dedication, and love. By choosing us, you become part of this family, helping to sustain a legacy that deserves to thrive.

So, whether you wear our kimonos to make a statement or to celebrate the beauty of tradition, you’re part of something bigger, a movement by Embila Designs to keep the art of Kashmir alive while bringing it into the modern world.
